Career-related Programme: Beyond the Classroom

UWC Day 2021 (Jonathan Vos Photography)

UWC Maastricht equips you with essential life skills to support your social and emotional well-being. The learning process extends beyond the classroom and we encourage you to nurture your talents through CAS, student-led initiatives, social entrepreneurship programmes, project weeks and music lessons.

CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service)

CAS is at the core of the Diploma Programme, designed to enhance both your personal and interpersonal learning. It focuses on three main areas:

  • Creativity: Explore and extend your ideas to create original or interpretive work. This could be writing, computer programming or organizing a musical.
  • Activity: Engage in physical activities that promote a healthy lifestyle, from sports like football and basketball to cycling and fitness.
  • Service: Work with the community to meet authentic needs, such as helping at elderly homes or contributing to sustainability projects. We encourage you to dedicate at least three hours each week to community service, collaborating with over 100 organizations in the Maastricht region.

CAS offers you the opportunity to express your passions and perspectives, complementing your academic programme with self-determination, collaboration and accomplishment.

Student-Led Initiatives

At UWC Maastricht, we’re proud of the initiatives you and your peers lead, such as conferences, festivals and musicals. Through these projects, you’ll gain skills in working with multi-cultural teams, explore new topics and contribute to the school and wider community. You’ll also have the chance to meet experts, workshop facilitators and guest speakers from around the world. Initiatives like the International Peace Conference, Youth Environmental Sustainability Conference and TEDxYouth Maastricht will connect you with international schools and organizations.

Youth Social Entrepreneurship

This short programme helps you identify challenges in your community and find sustainable solutions. You’ll work in teams to design change-making projects, collaborating with organizations or launching your own ventures. You’ll be supported with training and resources to implement your ideas, creating a lasting impact.

Project Week

Project Week gives you the chance to engage in experiential learning, either by exploring new cities or giving back to communities. You’ll design a local service project, contributing to the Maastricht community while expanding your horizons.

Music School

The UWCM Music School offers lessons in voice, guitar, flute, clarinet, drums, violin, viola, classical and jazz piano, cello and music production. The Music School encourages you to express yourself through music, celebrate diversity and share your artistry in performances, events and workshops. The lessons are open to Primary and Secondary students, UWCM staff members and parents, with lessons taking place on campus. For more information, feel free to email musicschool@uwcmaastricht.nl.

At UWC Maastricht, your learning goes beyond academics. Here, you’ll grow as a person, develop your passions and contribute meaningfully to your community and the world around you.
