UWC Maastricht recruits qualified and experienced staff from around the world who are committed to our school’s mission to make education a force for peace and a sustainable future.

UWC Maastricht has a part time vacancy (per January 1st, 2025) for a Counsellor in our Primary School. This job is only for 3 half days per week – timetable to be agreed.

The job

Offer counselling support and psychological care for all primary (age 4-11) kids in our school. Work closely with the learning support team and the teachers.

Due to the very part time nature of this vacancy we can only employ local staff with a work permit or EU passport.

Aspects of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Offer students with identified needs emotional and behavioural support.
  • Contribute to a best-practice approach to ensure effective support: Review research (including empirically supported interventions), critical judgments and reasonable generalizations as a basis for recommendations.
  • Use evidence-based practices involving identifying, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based interventions in collaboration with the learning support team.
  • Recognise the need to meet the individual needs of the children effectively; both the school and home being aware of the restrictions and limitations of finances, second language situations, external expertise and additional staffing due to the unique situation of the UWCM.
  • Select and provide the most appropriate form of support to enhance student’s progress, bearing in mind the demands of the school’s total needs and the availability of teaching staff and time.
  • Follow and evaluate the Care Plan which follows an RtI model (requisite by Dutch law).
  • Assist with screening individuals and groups and reporting on analyses of results.
  • Advice on support and training for teaching staff.
  • Consult with teachers, parents/guardians, and staff regarding the needs of the students.
